Beth Bruckner O’Brien is a writer/director/producer/visual artist
Beth Bruckner O’Brien is currently an independent writer, producer, and director operating under her development and production banner “Big Moody Curve Productions,” specializing in thrillers, horror, action, and comedy across film and television. BMC’s aim is to tell high concept entertainment with thematic resonance and profound character transformations.
Most recently, Beth led the drama team at the newly relaunched Fox Entertainment Studios, where she drove development on a slate of bold 1-hour, character-driven, scripted series for Fox Network and third party buyers.
Previous to Fox, Beth spent the better part of two decades shaping over 36 films as the head of development at Solstice Studios and VP, development and production at Millennium Films, including genre-bending thrillers, prestige dramas, and wildly entertaining popcorn hits. Credit highlights include Hypnotic (Ben Affleck, dir. Robert Rodriguez), Unhinged (Russell Crowe), The Hitman’s Bodyguard (Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson), The Paperboy (Nicole Kidman, dir. Lee Daniels), Lovelace (Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard), Bullet Head (Adrien Brody, John Malkovich), Criminal (Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman), Mechanic: Resurrection (Jason Statham, Jessica Alba), and franchise powerhouses like Olympus Has Fallen, The Expendables, SAW, and Texas Chainsaw.
Beth began her career at ICM before holding senior roles at Solstice Studios and Millennium Films. She got her start in development at A Bigger Boat/GreeneStreet and has also taught producing and “the business of screenwriting” at both UCLA and USC. Additionally, Beth serves as a judge for the Austin Film Festival screenwriting competition.
Big Moody Curve takes its name from a notorious hairpin turn on Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz Mountains—known for its beauty, danger, and the thrill of not knowing what’s around the bend.
Beth began her art and painting journey in 2020 and has since held one private art show, sold several of her paintings, as well as been commissioned for original artwork, and has painted over 100 paintings across acrylic, watercolor, and resin mediums.
Her writing and directing ambitions have been ongoing since she began writing in 2009 and she has been leading writers in the development process since 2010.
ART SHOWS
FLIRT, FLEX & FLOW(ER) — November 2025
It was hard to find a theme that incorporated everything I wanted to say in this show. It spanned artwork from the last 6 years across various mediums, and showcases minimalist and maximalist styles. My work often tends to be 2-dimensional and abstract, focusing on several recurring themes. FLIRT encompasses paintings of feminine figures or romantic subjects (like a silhouette from DIRTY DANCING, Marilyn Monroe). FLEX is a special series for me, focusing on more masculine themes and vintage cars. The vintage cars are especially significant because they were my late grandfather's vintage car restorations. FLOW(ER) encapsulates both the floral and plant-themes that run through a lot of my work, and also incorporates “FLOW,” which represents all pour paint abstracts and paintings that feel like “flow,” either literally or metaphysically.
DREAM AND PLAY — coming November 2026
Dreams mean a lot to me. I followed mine by moving to Los Angeles when I was 17. At this show, I’ll be debuting my new paintings and also debuting my plans for TAKE OUT, my directorial debut short film. The paintings encompass vivid dreams, playful mediums and subjects, and surrealistic concepts. TAKE OUT, my debut short film, is a heightened surrealistic action comedy fight playing out between a married couple arguing over what to order for dinner while using food as weapons.
